I grew up in East Texas, graduating from high school in 1983. I played the clarinet competitively, and I studied music at the University of Houston for a year before I decided to pursue archaeology. I transferred to the University of Texas, where I began scrabbling in the dirt for bones, projectile points and burned rocks. I graduated in 1990 with a degree in anthropology, specializing in archaeological studies. During my college years and before teaching at St. Francis, I worked at a variety of jobs: waitress, bookkeeper, ski-lift ticket operator, executive secretary, site excavator, report writer and fry cook. While still in college, I met my future husband and, after a whirlwind courtship of five weeks, we married! My husband Sean is a wonderfully funny man who has a kind heart and a positive attitude. We're perfect for each other. Our son Woody came along a year later and, after that, life kept getting more interesting. Our son Reilly was born seventeen months later; and then, two years later, our daughter Maggie was born. All three of our children attend St. Francis -- Woody (7th), Reilly (5th), and Maggie (3rd). They all began attending St. Francis at age three, and they've all had wonderful teachers and classes. I've been teaching school for seven years, six of them at St. Francis. In those years I've taught kindergarten, first grade, fourth grade, and now sixth grade. I have to admit that I enjoy middle school the best. The middle schoolers tend to be social, brutally honest, sarcastic, immensely entertaining, and outrageously intelligent. While I tend to spend quite a bit of time chauffeuring my kids to soccer, basketball, art lessons, and sleepovers, I do have hobbies of my own. In my spare time I enjoy reading -- I can often be found lounging at Barnes and Nobles (along with my 3 kids) parked in the comfy chairs reading a good book. I also like to knit and crochet - I'm constantly looking to learn new stitches or patterns. Another favorite hobby is going out to dinner and a movie with my girlfriends. I maintain close relationships with my parents, as well as the rest of my large extended family -- brother, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and grandparents. I also have many close friends, quite a number of which I met through St. Francis. I keep in close touch with them. St. Francis School has provided my family and me with, not only an excellent education, but also with an extended family. The school has become a second home to us, and it has helped teach our children many of the values that my husband and I find important. |

My name is Lori Douglass, and I teach 6th grade social studies along with language survey. Before coming to St. Francis School in Austin, I seriously considered becoming either a musician or an archaeologist. Luckily, I landed at this wonderful school -- because I couldn't be happier with my job or my environment.
