St. Francis School Facilities

St. Francis School is located in North Central Austin, one block north of Highland Mall between Airport and I-35.

The main school building, the Douglas Laycock Building, is a two story yellow brick structure with twenty-four Classrooms, three Tutoring Tooms, and a small Gymnasium. In addition to regular classrooms, there is a Science Lab for the Middle School, a Computer Lab, an Art Room, and a Music Room. The main building was renovated in 1995, with the support of the M.D. Anderson Foundation, the Meadows Foundation, and other friends of St. Francis School.

The St. Francis Soccer Field, a joint project of the school and the North Austin Soccer Association, is nearly World Cup size, and is one of the premier soccer fields in Austin. The field includes a track and a long jump pit. Donors to development of the field include the M.D. Anderson Foundation, the Tyrex Technology Family, and other friends of St. Francis School.

There is a large playground for younger children, with swings, large playscapes for climbing and adventure, and outdoor basketball courts.

A new gym was completed in Fall 2005. The gym is across Twin Crest Drive from the main building. The 10,320 square foot gym can be laid out as a regulation-size basketball court, three regulation-size volleyball courts, or four basketball practice courts. Each layout has ample room for spectators. Funding for the gym was provided by the M.D. Anderson Foundation, the Bernard and Audre Rapoport Foundations, and other friends of St. Francis School.

Future Plans: Now that the new gym is complete, and as funds are raised, the school plans to convert the smaller gym into a dual-use cafeteria/auditorium and seven new Classrooms, including a Language Lab, an Elementary School Science Lab, and additional Tutoring Rooms for individual and small-group instruction. The new gym will also make it possible to remove the outdoor basketball courts and make additional improvements to the playground.

Parking: If you are visiting St. Francis, parking is available at the main building. An overflow parking lot is located directly across Huntland Drive at the St. Francis Soccer Field, and street parking is permitted on Twin Crest Drive adjacent to the school. Please be considerate of our residential neighbors and try not to park in front of their houses, further down Twin Crest. Please use the crossing signals to cross Huntland Drive if you park at the Soccer Field. Our busiest times, with the most parked cars, are at 8:30 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays.
