• Gain confidence in their mathematical abilities.

• Use and extend what they know as they encounter new content and wrestle with new ideas.

• Build their own understanding of the past in order to build a foundation for their understanding of the world.

• Build an understanding of the economic, cultural, political, and ecological connections among people.

• Foster a respect and love of the humanities.
