St. Francis Development News

Our generous donors truly make possible all that we accomplish at St. Francis. Periodically, this site will highlight development news on grants and donations and how these make a difference in the education of students at St. Francis School.

St. Francis receives $100,000 grant from the M.D. Anderson Foundation.

St. Francis has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the M.D. Anderson Foundation to be used toward construction of a new gymnasium. The grant will be paid over four years. Funds from the foundation were instrumental in allowing the school to proceed with construction in November 2004, and satisfied the requirements of a matching grant challenge that will bring another $100,000 to the project. The gymnasium is the first phase of the multi-year "Building for the Future" campaign that will also add a cafeteria/multipurpose space, new classrooms, tutoring rooms, language and science labs, and other facility improvements.

Webber Family Foundation awards $19,200 for Schools AttunedĀ® Training.

The Austin-based Webber Family Foundation has donated $19,200 to be used to complete the training of St. Francis faculty in the Schools AttunedĀ® program. This program, developed by nationally renowned pediatrician Dr. Mel Levine, helps teachers, parents and students help students gain insight into how their minds work when engaged in learning.
Parent donations supported and funded the Summer 2004 training of 16 faculty, including the Head of School. The funds from the Webber Family Foundation will allow 16 remaining teachers to attend the 35-hour training course, completing the training of all faculty members so that St. Francis can fully implement use of this program in all classes. The St. Francis mission focuses on meeting the individual needs of each student. Because the school serves students with a broad range of learning styles and issues, this training will allow each teacher to more objectively assess and provide for student academic and social needs using clinically researched methods.
