My first love in teaching music to children began when I taught in early childhood. Although, I did sing in my first church choir at age 3 so I'm sure that influenced me greatly. Since then I have gone on to teach all ages and grades through middle school. I've led children's and youth choirs, created and led children's music programs including music camps and, have had a private voice and vocal coaching studio specializing in the young singer. I come from a long line of professional musicians so teaching music seems to be in my DNA.
I've had a long association with the Armstrong Community Music School, which gave me the opportunity to keep adding teaching experiences and leadership roles throughout many programs in Austin including SafePlace, Opera in Schools, The Thinkery, and more.
St. Francis has been a wonderful fit for me in that our values are in synch. Understanding and teaching the whole child is one of these values. Empowering a child's intrinsic connection to rhythm, sound, movement, expression, creativity is the foundation for our music program and we seek to help our students to joyfully find their own voice, both literally and metaphorically.
