SHARON DOERRE, Secretary

Sharon Doerre has been part of the St Francis community since the fall of 2002 when her oldest child started pre-K! She joined the Board in 2008 and her youngest child graduated from 8th grade at St. Francis in 2019! During those 17 years, the entire family depended on St. Francis for so much more than academics. In addition to the more typical learning challenges of dyslexia, dysgraphia, and giftedness, her family had to learn to handle a serious chronic illness in a child. The caring and individualized approach of St. Francis School allowed all three of her children to thrive. Sharon is committed to seeing this philosophy continue into the future.

Raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Sharon came to Austin in 1990 to attend graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin. She earned a MA and a Ph.D. in social anthropology and Middle Eastern Studies. Her academic work focused on the stories people tell to create and maintain a sense of community. She taught in the Cultural Foundations Program at St. Edward’s University for 12 years. She now teaches at the  Griffin School. In addition to her Board service, she has volunteered regularly for the Howl, Annual Fund, Spring Galas, Italy Pizza, and the SFS Capital Campaign. She has held a variety of leadership and volunteer roles at Austin Pets Alive! Conspirare Youth Choirs, Griffin School, Rawson Saunders, Caritas Refugee Services, and the South River City Citizens Neighborhood Association
