Elementary School

In elementary grades, students are encouraged to develop a passion for learning that will carry them throughout their lives. With a mix of whole-group instruction, small-group collaboration, and independent assignments, our students engage in dynamic and interactive learning experiences.

List of 4 items.

  • Math

In our elementary school, we believe in a hands-on approach to math that encourages active learning through the use of manipulatives and visual aids. These tools help students engage with mathematical concepts in a multi-sensory way, making learning both interactive and enjoyable. Our curriculum is rooted in research-supported strategies that focus on three key areas to ensure a comprehensive mathematical foundation:
    • Conceptual Understanding: Students develop a deep understanding of fundamental math concepts and learn to apply them across various contexts.
    • Procedural Fluency: Students build the skills to apply mathematical methods accurately and efficiently.
    • Real-World Application: We connect math concepts to practical, everyday problem-solving, showing how math is used in the world around them.
  • Reading & Language Arts

In grades K-2, our phonics instruction is rooted in Fundations K-2, a multisensory, Structured Literacy approach aligned with the Wilson Reading System. This program helps students build strong foundational skills in phonics, reading fluency, and decoding. As students progress, the language arts curriculum shifts focus to novel studies, structured writing, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary development. Through these areas, we aim to develop confident readers and writers, fostering critical thinking and a lifelong love of language.
  • Science & Social Studies

Our Social Studies curriculum uses Little Thinkers (K-1) and TeachTCI (2nd-4th), engaging students with interactive, inquiry-based lessons that foster critical thinking and a deep understanding of history, culture, and society. In K-1, students explore foundational concepts, while in grades 2-4, they delve deeper into social studies topics through hands-on activities and discussions.

For Science, we use the Mystery Science curriculum, a dynamic, standards-aligned program that sparks curiosity through open-ended lessons and hands-on activities. Mystery Science guides students to explore scientific phenomena, utilizing everyday classroom materials to make learning interactive and fun.
  • Specials

These classes complement core academic subjects by fostering creativity, physical development, and emotional growth. Students engage in Library, where they cultivate a love for reading, Music, which sparks creativity and appreciation for rhythm and melody, and Physical Education, which encourages teamwork and physical fitness. Additionally, Social-Emotional Learning equips students with tools for personal growth and positive interaction.
Our Spanish program helps develop early language skills, while Art and Drama (K-4) encourage self-expression and creativity. Computer class begins in 1st grade, giving students a strong foundation in technology and digital literacy. Each of these areas supports our commitment to developing well-rounded, confident learners.

Field Trips

We believe in taking learning beyond the classroom and utilizing the vibrant city of Austin as a rich resource for exploration. Our elementary students embark on a variety of educational field trips designed to bring their studies to life. Past trips include visiting the Ladybird Wildflower Center to explore nature, the Bob Bullock Museum for hands-on history lessons, performances at the Paramount Theater, and trips to Crowe's Nest Farm and Austin Community First Village to connect with the local community and environment.
